Mountain of the month February 2019: Waun Rydd, Brecon Beacons, Wales

From the beautiful bluebird skies of the French alps to the four seasons in one day excitement of the Brecon Beacons 2019’s #mountainofthemonth has got off to a flying start.

This months walk involved sunshine, hail, rain, sleet, snow and ferocious winds all experienced in a circuit along Talybont reservoir up onto the plateau via Craig Y Fan Ddu and descending back to the car via Waun Rydd (with an accidental detour via Allt Lwyd). The circuit was beautiful, varied and made for a cracking, non technical, winters day out. Given the at time amazing conditions I’m going to let the photos do the talking for this month! Enjoy.

Clearly the ever present dampness of Wales is good for moss growth

The recent rain and snow definitely made for some impressive waterfalls en route

The hailstorm may have had something to do with our slight navigational error

Easy to now see where we should have descended
